Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A high-speed bike accident occurred near the Laketown bypass early this afternoon, leaving two riders severely injured. The incident took place around 12:45 PM when a Pulsar bike heading towards the Laketown Grami flyover lost control and crashed into a road divider.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bike was traveling at high speed before suddenly losing balance and colliding with the divider. The impact was severe, throwing both riders onto the road. Local commuters immediately informed the police, who arrived promptly and rushed the injured to the hospital for medical treatment.
According to police sources, both riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, which likely prevented more serious head injuries. However, their condition remains critical as they sustained multiple injuries from the high-impact crash.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the accident, with preliminary reports suggesting that excessive speed might have been a factor. "It appears that the bike lost control due to overspeeding, leading to a direct collision with the guard wall on the bridge," a police official said.
The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving on the Laketown bypass, a route known for frequent two-wheeler accidents. Police have urged bikers to maintain safe speeds and follow traffic regulations to prevent such mishaps.
As the injured riders continue their treatment, officials are expected to analyze CCTV footage from the area to determine if any additional factors contributed to the crash. Further updates on their condition and the investigation are awaited.
